Making a Difference

Traditional Herbalism is a way of life for most Jamaicans and the Caribbean at large at a matter of fact for the past 5 decades it has been the primary means of healthcare. We are blessed to be in the tropics where there is a vast variety of medicinal Flora and Fauna. The sad truth is, for years we have allowed this valuable ancient knowledge of our ancestors to fade in the darkness by not properly documenting and organizing the body of information so that we can use it for generations to come.

Finally after years of research and practice Well known Herbalist Dr. Ben-Yisrael (Marlon Hurlock) is willing to share his vast knowledge of Jamaican and Caribbean herbs in a structured and carefully organized manner. The result is our first training program (Diploma in Indigenous Caribbean Medicine). This course is our Introductory course and is designed to be relevant to new as well as experienced practitioners alike. You may find many herbal courses online, but you will not find a course that is solely based on a "herba medica" that features only herbs from Jamaica and the Caribbean.

It is our hope that even after students finish this course that they will go on  researching plant medicine, while continuing to grow and use herbs for their families and loved ones. There are still many people around the world today still using plants in traditional ways for healing. In many parts of the world, botanical medicines still comprises the primary form of health care.

Indigenous Caribbean Medicine introduces the concept that many healing systems, including the modern (w)holistic model, don’t treat specific diseases. We deal with the body as a whole, seeking to restore health in the whole of the body, mind and spirit.

At BOSTON Institute Of Natural Medicine, students receive so much more than an ordinary education in herbalism. We pride ourselves on creating a unique, exciting environment that embraces all types of learners and promotes growth both academically and personally.
